What Is a Family?
A family is more than just a group of people living under one roof—it’s a caring relationship among its members. The stronger the connection, the more harmonious the family becomes. Strong connections rely on understanding each other’s feelings, respecting needs, and fostering mutual acceptance. When relationships break down, a family becomes little more than people coexisting without truly sharing their lives.
Building a Harmonious Family
A family often starts with two people who love each other, marry, and form a household together. Healthy dynamics bring happiness and stability. Without good communication and genuine care, family members can feel like strangers living together rather than a supportive unit.
Tips for Strengthening Family Bonds
-
Know Yourself: Reflect on your own habits and emotions to see how you can better relate to others.
-
Improve Communication: Practice empathy—listen to your loved ones, think from their perspective, and engage in open, honest dialogue.
-
Show Kindness: Be caring and understanding as you communicate and listen, creating a sense of safety and belonging.
When spouses support each other, children feel more comfortable sharing their inner world. Stronger connections lead to a more loving, supportive family—exactly what we all hope to create.
For the past decade, the Harmony Family Advancement Association has been serving Chinese families in the New York community. Through a series of courses, free public seminars, and member activities, we teach, exchange, and share techniques for harmonious interaction. Participants consistently say that applying what they learn in everyday life has been immensely helpful. They’ve moved beyond the old pattern of “I’m right, you’re wrong,” no longer getting stuck in endless debates about who’s at fault. Meanwhile, those working in professional settings use compassionate communication skills to develop strong partnerships at work, leading to success on the job and greater harmony at home.
Parent Class
This course teaches and practices the most effective communication skills. By understanding a child's inner world and using expression methods they can accept, children will feel truly understood and accepted. Participants will also learn how to help children improve negative behaviors, cope with their own stress and emotions, and develop children's independence, sense of responsibility, and teamwork abilities. This leads to open dialogue with children, effective conflict resolution, and the rebuilding of family relationships.

Non-Voilent Communication
When someone’s behavior doesn’t align with my values or beliefs, some people respond with “violence” while others respond with kindness. When I choose a negative response, the other person can’t understand my true intentions or feelings. Nonviolent Communication is about transforming one’s mindset, helping us gradually eliminate deeply rooted patterns of violent communication and making our interactions with others much smoother.

Emotion Management Class
In the journey of life, we encounter many unhappy and painful experiences that are hard to erase because they form part of who we are. When certain events trigger memories of these negative experiences, our emotions may plunge into a low or even spiral out of control, leaving us feeling terrible and worthless. Emotional Balance is an excellent tool for maintaining a steady emotional state when facing unhappiness or pain.

Enneagram Class
Understanding each person’s personality isn’t easy. By recognizing both our own and our children’s personalities, we can better accept them and more effectively support their healthy development. The Enneagram is a highly effective tool for understanding personality. In parenting, knowing the Enneagram gives us the ability to help children improve their negative behaviors.
